Introductory course for Graphic Design Minors that provides foundational understanding of the skills, thinking, and knowledge required of communication designers. Concentrates on the development and use of the core elements of design: typography and imagery. View sample syllabus here.
Inspired by Silas Munro's "Near-Future Sub-Culture Mashup" project, students select a unique subculture and create a publication that builds community around it. Emphasis on page layout and typography.
Using found objects as tools, students create prints using black ink to convey meaning with type.
Using 25-word stories from the book Hint Fiction, students create book jackets that "hint" at the story within. Emphasis on type and image.
